“First step” or liberation? Bavaria at odds over new situation

Niko Kovac briefly clenched his right hand to his fist in the final whistle, Bayern Munich’s coach did not allow himself more emotion after his 3-1 (1-0) victory at VfL Wolfsburg. “Because that was only a first and small step in the right direction,” the coach said cautiously.

But with this opinion Kovac was quite alone with the record champion, other leaders jazzed the solid working victory of the guests one day after the controversial scolding of the Bayern grands Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß towards the media at the overstrained Lower Saxony to a trend reversal high. “That was like a liberation,” said defence chief Mats Hummels, and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic was also euphoric: “We showed character, and that in a difficult phase.

On the grass of the Volkswagen Arena the outstanding Robert Lewandowski made the difference with his goals in the 30th and 49th minute as well as with his preliminary work for James’ (72nd) third goal. Joshua Kimmich argued that the attacks of the club leadership towards Journaille on Friday could also have played a role in their minds. “It was a great sign that the club is standing in front of the players and protecting them. Now you have that feeling of togetherness again,” the national player stressed on the Sky microphone.

Kovac seemed to have been less motivated by the verbal failures, a concrete answer to the question of how he judged the previous day’s press conference: “I’m only responsible for the sport, that’s all I want to do”. Slotsino manages to feel both unique with their choice of layout but it is similar in some ways to some other casinos you will have seen before

Perhaps best of all, because the performance of the guests in Wolfsburg was by no means consistently good. In addition, the yellow-red card for Arjen Robben (57th) weakened the drive of the record champion. After a dubious yellow card due to a swallow, the Dutchman received a superfluous dismissal after a stupid attack.

“But even in this phase and after the goal we didn’t shake,” Kovac analyzed. His colleague from Wolfsburg, Bruno Labbadia, was annoyed that his charges could not take advantage of the chance of numerical superiority.

The former Bayern goal scorer had his hair torn out several times when his team attacked the Bavarians with long and high balls, instead of pulling the actions in the width and thus the personnel overhang better to implement. “We simply weren’t clever enough,” complained the 52-year-old, and Wout Weghorst’s (63rd) goal was understandably too little for him.

After a good start, the North Germans had six games in a row without a win and said goodbye to the first half of the table. In order to stop this downward spiral, three points on the next matchday at the taillight Fortuna Düsseldorf are absolute duty.

Until then, however, the wolves should again have the “hundred percent courage” (Labbadia), which they had lost a little against the German champions. Basically, however, the coach believes in his charges: “We have missed some point wins, but the results will come again. It’s about time”.

HSV: That’s why Christian Titz’s expulsion is the right decision

Hamburg. Lack of understanding is currently beating the HSV bosses. Lack of understanding is currently striking at the HSV bosses after the expulsion of coach Christian Titz – right?

Some fans want to cancel their membership of Hamburger SV, others are calling for a boycott: The dismissal of coach Christian Titz is making waves in the social networks. The tenor is predominantly the same: The decision of the second division football team is wrong. But the HSV managers have done a lot right – an analysis.

Currently, HSV is in fifth place, only two points behind the front runner 1 FC Cologne. In tabular form, the northern lights are therefore not far away from the direct ascent places, but on the pitch the team did not once present itself as sovereign in this season. But all in turn. “Sensation coach“?

Last season Titz took Bernd Hollerbach’s place on the coach’s bench. Titz is described as the “sensation coach of the past season” by an HSV fan on Facebook. Hollerbach let the HSV run up with a chain of five, which inhibited the offensive. Titz changed and let act more courageously. The coach scored 13 points from eight games with the new tactical orientation. A good balance. But Titz would have been a “sensation trainer” if he had saved HSV from relegation.

Another accusation against the HSV bosses is that they should have given the coach more time to develop the young players. After all, the team had the lowest average age (22.9 years) in the entire 2nd Bundesliga. However, a total market value of 56.95 million euros (according to transfermarkt.de) – the second highest value after Cologne – also speaks for a certain quality.

Titz imposed his extremely offensively designed system on the still very inexperienced team without having the corresponding player material. Keeper Julian Pollersbeck was drawn forward as the eleventh field player. Long balls to the front were forbidden. Basically the playful solution is good. The central defenders David Bates and Rick van Drongelen, however, often lost the ball in the structure, Pollersbeck afforded inaccurate passes, which landed with the opponent – recently also in the game against VfL Bochum (0:0). Despite all warnings, Titz remained stubborn and loyal to his system. It was ultimately due to the inability of the opposing strikers that these weaknesses have so far only been exploited by Jahn Regensburg (0:5) and Holstein Kiel (0:3).

Moreover, despite the availability of skilled strikers – Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Jan-Fiete Arp – Titz even let 32-year-old Aaron Hunt play at the top. This lacked on the one hand a real buyer for the flanks from the outside, and on the other hand a playmaker who fed the attack line with passes. Hunt is not a suitable striker. He has neither the speed, the assertiveness nor the necessary header strength.

Directly after the final whistle of the 34th matchday of the past season and the associated relegation into each microphone, the HSV bosses had only given out one route: direct relegation. This claim and the performance of HSV did not go hand in hand in the second league season so far. The coach’s dismissal is therefore consistent and correct.
